Maximizing Eyewear Performance and Lifespan

We know that eyeglasses and frames can be an expensive purchase.

If you protect your investment with regular maintenance (just as you would with a car or expensive bike), it will make a huge difference to extend the lifespan of your frame.

Three simple tips to safeguard your eyewear investment:

  1. Get your frame adjusted regularly This will make a big difference in the durability of your glasses. It will keep your glasses from slipping and sliding - and will also increase your overall comfort. We love to receive visits from our loyal customers - so be sure to pop in and have us give your frames a thorough inspection and tune-up!
  2. Clean your lenses (gently) Get the best performance from improved vision and lens coatings that reduce harmful UV rays. Use the lens cleaner that came with your glasses.
  3. Wipe (gently) the entire frame - The acids in our skin, natural salts and UV rays from the sun corrode the metal and plastic in eyewear frames to become brittle and sometimes discolour.
This means that plastic frames tend to whiten and dry out over time. Metal frames will begin to corrode and start losing their colour. The best way to combat this is with good, old-fashioned soap and water!
Make sure to use tepid water, and give the entire frame a wipe-down at the end of the day.

Just by following these three simple rules, you are sure to get the maximum lifespan out of your glasses! Make sure to check back next week to learn more simple tips to help you protect your eyewear investment. For more information feel free to pop in the store, or check us out on our Facebook page!
